Amherst, New Hampshire — The Gallery at LaBelle Winery Amherst, in partnership with Sullivan Framing and Fine Art Gallery in Bedford, New Hampshire, will present an exhibit titled “Land and Sea — Recent Works by Sandra Kavanaugh” from Feb. 3, 2020 through June 8, 2020.
An opening reception for the show will be held on Feb. 19, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission to the reception is free. Registration is suggested, but walk-ins are welcome. To register for the reception visit LaBelleWineryEvents.com.
Sandra Kavanaugh, who lives on Little Island Pond in Pelham, New Hampshire, says the beauty of everyday sights and scenes is what inspires her work. Whether a mountain vista or sunlight hitting the rocks on her morning walk, Kavanaugh’s goal as an artist is to capture the essence of local places and ordinary objects.
“I love geometry and the underlying structure of things,” Kavanaugh says. “I combine the classical with the contemporary as I apply the golden section to my compositions.”
Kavanaugh holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. She exhibits her work throughout New England, and is a member of the Copley Society in Boston. She is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association as well as a member of the North Shore Art Association, the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, the Pastel Society of Maine, and the Newburyport Art Association.
“This brand new collection of pastel paintings by New Hampshire artist Sandra Kavanaugh is inspired by the natural beauty of our local surroundings,” says Amy Sullivan, owner of Sullivan Framing and Fine Art Gallery. “Through Kavanaugh’s paintings we are forced to slow down and experience an ordinary moment in time in the constantly changing New England landscape.”
On April 1, 2020 at 6 p.m. Kavanaugh will give a live artist’s demonstration at LaBelle Winery in Amherst during which she will create a painting with pastels. Admission is free, but registration in advance is required due to limited seating. Visit LaBelle Winery’s website to register.
