Amherst, New Hampshire — When New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu decided to serve locally made award-winning wines at this year’s New Hampshire inaugural celebrations, he reached out to Amy LaBelle, co-owner and winemaker at LaBelle Winery. LaBelle worked with Catherine Sununu, Gov. Sununu’s sister, who led the inaugural committee, to select the wines.

LaBelle and Ms. Sununu chose LaBelle Winery malbec and chardonnay to be served at the inaugural events, which were held on Jan. 4, 2019 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Manchester, and on Jan. 12, 2019 at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods. Both Ms. Sununu and LaBelle felt these wines paired well with the events’ menus.

LaBelle Malbec is a dry, deep purple rich wine with soft tannins and mild acidity. It offers the aromas of violets, dark plums, tobacco and earth tones. LaBelle chardonnay is an elegant blend of the traditional chardonnay grape and the cold-hardy grape vidal blanc, together creating a true New England wine.

Gov. Sununu’s team designed the wines’ labels to reflect the events’ theme: a celebration of winter. The wines’ labels incorporated the inaugural logo, a white and gold design featuring an illustration of the Old Man in the Mountain, New Hampshire’s state symbol, inside of a snow globe. The labels identified LaBelle Winery as the wines’ producer.

“I was thrilled the governor chose LaBelle’s wine for his inaugural events.  He could have selected any wine, from any region, but he chose LaBelle. It’s a real testament to the artisan quality of the wines we produce right here in New Hampshire,” LaBelle says.
