Amherst, New Hampshire — In its 15th year of participating in the event, LaBelle Winery has earned several awards in the 2022 Eastern States Exposition “The Big E” Wine Competition in the categories of Best New Hampshire Grown Wine and Best New Hampshire Wine, as well as a gold and multiple silver and bronze medals.

The Big E Wine Competition judges wines from all six New England states in several categories. Wines are blind-judged on their own merits, as opposed to how they compare to other wines, and for their qualities at the time of judging, rather than what they may eventually become after aging.

LaBelle Winery received the following awards for 2022:

Best New Hampshire Wine/ Best New Hampshire Grown Wine:

Shimmer

Gold Medal:

Shimmer

Silver Medals:

Tannat
Petit Verdot
Cranberry
Dry Blueberry
Red Raspberry
Americus

Bronze Medals:

Verano Sangria
Granite State Red
Tempest
Amherst Estate Vineyard White
Seyval Blanc

The Big E, which takes place annually in West Springfield, Massachusetts, is the sixth largest agricultural fair in the United States. Wines that are awarded medals are displayed in the Wine and Cheese Barn during the course of the event, exposing a potential audience of more than 1.8 million fairgoers to the best wines in New England.

The year’s Eastern States Exposition will be held September 16 through October 2.

“We are ecstatic to have received these outstanding wine honors, including Best New Hampshire Wine and Best New Hampshire Grown Wine, and a gold medal for our exceptional Shimmer sparkling wine,” says Amy LaBelle, co-owner and winemaker at LaBelle Winery.

“We’ve recently opened a sparkling wine-focused tasting room at our Derry location. We’re looking forward to bringing more award-winning sparkling wines to the region in the near future.

“We take our winemaking seriously and strive to provide our customers with the best wines possible. The multiple awards we receive at The Big E year after year let us know that we’re on the right track with our natural approach to winemaking, and that consumers appreciate the passion and quality that goes into everything we do.”
